Hi – I’m Alan Culler,
Writer of stories and songs,
Seeker of wisdom from unusual places.
Storytelling is my fourth career.
In my youth, I wanted to be an actor. In order to portray characters I studied behavior; I learned the combination of technical and artistic skill, planning, practice, and improvisation it takes to mount a show. Unfortunately, I graduated with no idea how to earn a living. I drove a cab, waited tables, tended bar, was a night hospital ICU orderly and graveyard shift factory hand to leave my days free for the auditions I wasn’t getting.
I became a speaker’s agent for celebrities like Dick Gregory, Margaret Mead, Ralph Nadar, Erica Jong, and H. Ross Perot. I learned that even the famous are just people who want to be listened to and helped.
I went to the London Business School to become a consultant with very little Idea of what the work actually was. Somehow I learned enough to stay in the field for thirty-seven years, helping leaders make strategic change, and their people to innovate and improve.
I made so many mistakes along the way. I also met some people who helped me. I wrote down those lessons learned, the genesis of this blog, which may include some guests with insights of their own.
I welcome your comments and will post and/or respond as I am able.
